Wellmobile to Visit Pearce

The UnityPoint Health Methodist Wellmobile will visit Pearce Community Center Tuesday, October 18, from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. The public is welcome to stop in for free blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring and cholesterol and spirometry screening. An eight to 12-hour fast is required for the cholesterol/blood glucose tests. 


Pearce Community Center will host Party in Pink Zumbathon, Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The public is invited to the party to help raise funds to find a cure for breast cancer and dance to Zumba’s hot Latin sounds. Proceeds from the event will benefit Susan G. Komen Memorial Center.

Featured Zumba instructors from central Illinois include James “J-Zum” Haywood, Sarah Rupiper, Stephanie Ribeiro, Miriam Maleny Arreguin, Aric “Enrique” Faulkner, and Janet Higgins. Special guest instructors include Markiss Barns from North Carolina and Cjay Pina from New York.

Several vendors will be on hand including Straight Dope Soaps, Pirilampo Studios, Mary Kay Cosmetics, GAINS Fit Retreat, Norwex, and The BoW Pro.

Purchase early bird tickets by October 3 for $10 general admission and $5 for ZIN (Zumba Instructor Network) members. Advance tickets are available from October 4 to 14 for $15 general admission and $10 for ZIN members. Tickets can also be purchased at Pearce on the day of the event only or $20 general admission and $15 for ZIN members. Group rates are also available online.

School's Out Day Camp

Pearce will host School’s Out Day Camp for students in grades K-6 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10; Friday, October 21; Wednesday, November 23; Wednesday through Friday, December 21-23, Monday through Friday, December 26-30; and Monday through Wednesday, January 2-4, 2017 when IVC School District #321 is not in session. Before camp care is also available beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Campers will spend the day enjoying a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, swimming in the pool, and local field trips. Bring a daily sack lunch that does not require refrigeration but can contain microwaveable items and a drink, swimsuit and towel, gym shoes, and a book. An afternoon snack will be provided.

Register in advance at Pearce. Foundation members pay only $31.50 per child per day; members $35; and non-members $55.


Junior Fitness Certification

Junior Fitness Certification will be offered on Monday, October 10, from 1 to 2 pm for Pearce members ages 13 and 14.

Participants will learn how to use the equipment in a safe, productive manner. Additionally, they will learn fitness etiquette and rules.

After successfully completing the class and receiving certification, young members will be allowed access to the cardiovascular room and the Selectorized equipment area.

Pearce Foundation members pay only $9; members $12. Advance registration is required.

Kids Creative Art

Kids Creative Art is a 6-week program that will introduce students to six different famous artists and a variety of art mediums. The class will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from September 21 through October 26.
Fees:
Foundation members: $30
Members: $40
Non-members: $50

New Pearce Swim Club

Pearce is offering Swim Club each Monday and Wednesday for 8 weeks beginning September 19. The Club will meet from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and is open to ages 5 and over who can swim one length of the pool unassisted. The Club is designed to help swimmers ages 5 and older develop and improve competitive swimming abilities including a variety of strokes, strength, and speed.The Club will be led by Kerri McGrath.
The cost is $45 for Foundation members; Members $60; Non-members $75.

September Senior Potluck

Pearce will host the monthly senior potluck at noon on Tuesday, September 27. All seniors are invited to bring a side dish and their own table service and join in the fun. Fried chicken and drinks are provided. This month, musical entertainment will be provided by Freight Train Mike.

Fall Youth Basketball League Registration Now Open

Registration is open for Pearce Community Center’s fall/winter youth basketball league open to boys and girls ages 4 to 12 years old. The league is designed to provide fun, recreational basketball practice and play during which participants will learn basic skills and rules of the game in a structured environment. Every child, regardless of their skill level, will have the opportunity to experience basketball.  Games are played at Pearce on Saturdays.

The first six-week season runs from November 12 to December 17. Practice begins the week of November 7. Registration for this season ends October 31.

The second six-week season runs from January 14 to February 18. Practice begins the week of January 2. Registration for this season ends December 30.


Pearce Foundation members pay only $30 for a single season or $52.50 for both. Members pay $40 for a single season or $70 for both. Non-members pay $60 for a single season or $110 for both.

Unexpected Equipment Failure Extends Pool Closure

As a result of shutting down all the systems that support the operation of the pool for annual maintenance, the equipment used to heat the pool has stopped working. Parts required for repair have been ordered, but it will be several days before they arrive and are installed. The new opening date is Monday, September 12, at 4am.
