Wellmobile Coming to Pearce

The UnityPoint Health Wellmobile will visit Pearce Community Center Tuesday, October 10, from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. The public is welcome to stop in for free blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring and cholesterol and spirometry screening. An eight to 12 hour fast is required for the cholesterol/blood glucose tests.

Junior Fitness Certification

Pearce is offering Junior Fit Certification on Monday, October 9, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for members ages 13 and 14. After successfully completing the class and receiving certification, young members will be allowed access to the cardiovascular room, Selectorized equipment area, and group exercise classes.
Participants will learn how to use the equipment in a safe, productive manner. Additionally, they will learn fitness etiquette, and rules.

Pearce Foundation members pay only $9; members $12. Advance registration is required.

Youth Basketball League

Registration is open for Pearce Community Center’s fall/winter youth basketball league open to boys and girls ages 4 to 12 years old. The league is designed to provide fun, recreational basketball practice and play during which participants will learn basic skills and rules of the game in a structured environment. Every child, regardless of their skill level, will have the opportunity to experience basketball. Games are played at Pearce on Saturdays.

The first six-week season runs from November 11 to December 16. Practice begins the week of October 30. Registration for this season ends October 27. A $25 late fee for registrations after October 27. The last day to register late is November 10, 2017.
The second six-week season runs from January 20 to February 24. Practice begins the week of January 8. Registration for this season ends January 5.

Pearce Foundation members pay only $33.75 for a single season or $60.75 for both. Members pay $45 for a single season or $81 for both. Non-members pay $60 for a single season or $108 for both.

Food Choices Matter Facebook Share Contest

We've got another great Facebook SHARE contest! We're giving away one free registration to our FOOD CHOICES MATTER Nutrition Class. SHARE, SHARE, SHARE our posts about this class between Monday, September 29 and Friday, September 29 and you will be entered to win! We'll announce the winner on Monday, October 2.

The nutrition class allows participants to develop a solid nutrition plan that will help them customize the diet plan that is right for them, provide accountability, and develop specific eating habits that will help them break through to their goals.

Class meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. October 12 through November 16.

The class will be taught by Megan O’Reilly, AFPA certified nutritionist and wellness consultant. Megan will bring her advanced education, multiple certifications, and years of experience to the class.

September Senior Potluck

Pearce will host the monthly senior potluck at noon on Tuesday, September 26. All seniors are invited to bring a side dish and their own table service and join in the fun. Fried chicken and drinks are provided. This month, entertainment will be provided by Steve Norris.

Babysitting Class Offered at Pearce

Pearce is offering the Safe Sitter® babysitting class on Saturday, September 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for ages 11 to 17. Students should bring a sack lunch.

The class will develop knowledge of first aid, rescue skills, and behavior management techniques as well as provide the experience to handle medical, behavioral, or household emergencies. Participants will also learn how to feed and diaper small children and create their own personalized toolkit of activities, crafts, and games to take with them to babysitting jobs.

The cost of the class is $30 for Foundation members; $40 for members; and $50 for non-members. Register in advance for the Safe Sitter® program at Pearce.
