Free OSF Car Seat Check

Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to teach parents and caregivers how to properly install and adjust car seats during a free OSF Car Seat Check on Saturday, May 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pearce.

Bring your car seat and instruction manuals for both the car seat and vehicle, if available. Bring the child as well. If the child is unavailable, bring the child’s current weight and height measurements.

Breakfast with Santa at Pearce

Pearce Community Center will host Santa and Mrs. Claus during Breakfastwith Santa, Saturday, December 5 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. A sausage and pancake breakfast will be served along with caroling and a visit with Santa.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. The advance purchase cost is $7 for people 13 and older and $5 for children 3 to 12 years. Tickets purchased at the door will sell for $10 for people 13 and older and $7 for children 3 to 12. Children 3 and under will be admitted free.

Smoking Cessation Program to be Hosted by Pearce

Pearce Community Center will host a presentation of the Smoking Cessation program offered by OSF Saint Francis Medical Center on Thursday, November 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

This free introduction to the Smoking Cessation program will explain the program and the process and provide education on tobacco. 

Wellmobile Coming to Pearce

Pearce Community Center will host a free wellness screening presented by UnityPoint Health on Tuesday, November 17 from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. The public is welcome to stop in for free blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring and cholesterol and spirometry screening. An eight to 12 hour fast is required for the cholesterol/blood glucose tests. 

Volunteers Needed for Spooktacular

We need your help. Donations of cakes, cupcakes, brownies, etc. would be greatly appreciated for the Cake Walk during Spooktacular.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with games and the haunted house, as well as with the prize station and ticket sales.

Free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

A free diabetic retinopathy screening for persons with diabetes, or those at risk for diabetes, will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe. The screening is coordinated by the Chillicothe Lion’s Club and the Lions of Illinois Foundation and is made possible through generous donations.

The quality of life for people with diabetic retinopathy and other retinal disorders, such as macular degeneration, is dramatically impacted. Since early detection of such disorders is critical, persons with diabetes or those 55 or older are encouraged to take advantage of this free screening.

Persons wishing to join the Lions in their fight against the effects of vision and hearing loss should contact the Chillicothe Lion’s Club President Mike Mahoney at (309) 274-5451.

Run For the Health of It, Stay for the Fun of It

Preparations are in full swing for this year's Run For the Health of It 5K race and 2-mile walk to be held on Saturday, July 11. New this year, the Family Fun Day event that typically takes place in August is being combined with the race to offer a full day to celebrate Pearce's 25th anniversary of providing fitness and recreation to the community. Everyone is invited.

The day will begin with the 5K race/2 mile walk at 7 am, followed by breakfast and the awards ceremony. Family Fun Day kicks off with breakfast at 9 am and a free fun run for children at 10 am. Kids ages 6 to 12 are invited to be at the starting line at the front of Pearce when each age group takes off. Zorro will also run the 600-meter course around the building, leading the way and encouraging runners. 

Zorro will lead kids 6 to 12 in a Fun Run at 10 am.

Chillicothe Police Department officers will lead and follow the runners to ensure their safety. Parents will need to sign a waiver to allow their kids to run. Participation medals will be awarded to each runner.

The popular climbing wall will be back this year as well as five inflatables including an obstacle course, bouncy house, giant slide, cannonball air blaster, and monster trikes. A waiver must be signed to climb the wall, along with a $2 fee per climb. The inflatables are free. There will also be Bingo with the first card free and additional cards available for $1 each. Lunch will be served from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Get a hot dog, chips, water, and sweet treat for only $3. Humana is supplying free ice cream.

Run For The Health of It, Stay For the Fun of It

Pearce Community Center is hosting Hardee’s Run For the Health of It and Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 11^th as part of its 25^th-anniversary celebration.

Run For the Health of It is an annual 5K run and 2-mile walk. The 5K course has been certified by USA Track and Field. The race begins at 7:00 a.m. with registration and check in available from 6:00 to 6:30 a.m.

The 5K race course and 2-mile walk will begin and end at Pearce Community Center. It will take participants through the paved, flat streets of Chillicothe. Water will be provided throughout the course.

Refreshments, snacks, and the awards ceremony will take place in the banquet room immediately after the race.

Register by June 27 to guarantee a premium dry wick race t-shirt and pay only $20 for ages 13 and younger and $25 and for ages 14 and older. The entry fee to walk is $10. After June 27, fees increase and t-shirts are not available.

Packet pickup will be available Thursday, July 9 from noon to 5:00 p.m., and again on Friday, July 10 from noon to 8:00 p.m. for everyone who has registered by July 8.

Family Fun Day will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with breakfast in the community room followed by a kid’s fun run led by costumed character Zorro, the masked avenger.

A rock climbing wall and five inflatables including an obstacle course, bounce house, giant slide, cannonball air blaster, and monster trikes will be part of the fun. A hot dog lunch, ice cream, music, and bingo will also be featured. 

Little Red and the Hoods to be Performed at Pearce

Community Children’s Theater will perform Little Red and the Hoods at Pearce Community Center on Tuesday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m.

The delightful tale of Little Red Riding Hood is told with modern lessons for today’s children including not judging people by their looks, how to protect themselves from strangers and the importance of reading.  With plenty of participation, this show is both fun and educational at the same time.

The public is invited to enjoy the show. Admission is $2. Reservations are not required.

Spooktacular Fun!

Again this year, Pearce celebrated Halloween with its popular Spooktacular event. Ghosts, goblins, witches, vampires, monsters, and a variety of other spooks enjoyed inflatables, carnival games, a cake walk, the a-MAZ-ing maze, and dinner. Here's a BIG, HUGE THANK YOU to ALL volunteers who donated time and baked goods to make this event a success.

Volunteers Needed for Spooktacular

Ghosts, goblins, witches, vampires, monsters, and a variety of other spooks are needed to help make this year's Spooktacular a success.

 
In the morning of the 31st, we need help setting up the event and decorating several areas of the Center. Some lifting will be required. Also in the morning, drop off cakes, cookies, brownies, and any dessert items.

 
Beginning at 4:00, we need help running the carnival games; monitoring the inflatables; selling game tickets; and redeeming game tickets.

Course Participation Can Deliver Auto Insurance Discounts

Pearce will host the AARP's Safe Driver Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 16 and 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The course is open to all ages. The cost is $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-members.

In Illinois, if an individual is 55 or older, the primary driver of a vehicle, has a good driving record, and takes a course approved by the Secretary of State, all automobile insurance companies must provide a discount on automobile insurance premiums. Participants must attend both days to receive credit from their automobile insurance company.  

AARP Safe Driver Course

The AARP Safe Driver Course will be offered at Pearce on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 16 and 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants must attend both days to receive credit for the course.

If you are over 55, present your course credit to your auto insurance provider. The state of Illinois requires insurance providers to offer discounted auto insurance for the completion of approved course work.

AARP members pay only $15; all others pay $20. Advance registration is required.
