Kids Zumba® Class Begins

Kids Zumba® for children ages six to 12 will be offered at Pearce Community Center. The class features kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba® choreography. We break down the steps and add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Kids Zumba® helps develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness.


The 8-week series of classes will be offered each Monday September 21 through November 9 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Class size is limited to 15 children. Pearce Foundation members pay only $18; Pearce members $20; and non-members $24.

Adult Tap Class Begins

Tap class for adults 16 and over will be offered at Pearce Community Center. Basic tap class begins on Friday, September 18 and the intermediate class begins Wednesday, September 16. Both classes meet from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. and are held in the dance studio. Tap shoes are required to participate. Pearce Foundation members pay only $30 for the 10-week series; members pay $40; and non-members pay $60.

Free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

A free diabetic retinopathy screening for persons with diabetes, or those at risk for diabetes, will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe. The screening is coordinated by the Chillicothe Lion’s Club and the Lions of Illinois Foundation and is made possible through generous donations.

The quality of life for people with diabetic retinopathy and other retinal disorders, such as macular degeneration, is dramatically impacted. Since early detection of such disorders is critical, persons with diabetes or those 55 or older are encouraged to take advantage of this free screening.

AARP Safe Driving Course

Pearce Community Center will host the AARP Safe Driver course on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 16 and 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In Illinois, if an individual is 55 or older, the primary driver of a vehicle, has a good driving record, and takes a course approved by the Secretary of State, all automobile insurance companies must provide a discount on automobile insurance premiums. Participants must attend both days to receive credit from their automobile insurance company.

The course fits the needs of anyone older than 50; however, those under 50 are also invited to attend. The course is a total of eight hours offered in two four-hour sessions.

AARP membership is not required; however, AARP members pay only $15; non-members pay $20.

Running Club Fall Session Scheduled

Running Club will kick off its 9-week fall session on Tuesday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. The Club is open to all ages and skill levels; however, children under the age of 10 must run with an adult. Weekly runs are led by Illinois Valley Striders. In inclement weather, the Club runs on Pearce’s indoor track. Foundation members pay only $56.25 for club membership; members $75; non-members $90.

25th Anniversary Fall Fitness Frenzy at Pearce



Pearce Community Center will host Fall Fitness Frenzy Monday, September 14 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. This special event includes six 30-minute group exercise classes, the re-opening of the renovated Pearce Strong cross training room, the introduction of Kids Zumba class, drawings, prizes, and discounts.

Free access to the public to six of the most popular group exercise classes will be available. Try the TRX Suspension Training from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the front gym; Beginner Hip Hop from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the back gym; Spinning® from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Spinning® room; and Kick Fit from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.; RIP from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.; and Yoga from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. all in the Aerobics Studio. During each class, the instructor will give all participants a ticket to enter into a drawing for three months of free membership at Pearce.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Pearce Strong room will take place at 4:00 p.m. After the ceremony, Pearce Strong instructor Gavin Sullivan will offer free cross training and personal consultation until 7:00 p.m. Registration will also be accepted for the program at the new reduced price of $60 per month for Pearce Foundation members; $75 per month for Pearce members; and $100 per month for non-members. Register for unlimited months by October 14 and receive 20 percent off. In addition, Pearce Strong registrations during the Fall Fitness Frenzy will receive a free $10 voucher to apply to any Pearce Strong purchase.


The new Kids Zumba class will be introduced during the Fall Fitness Frenzy as well. Class demonstration and registration will be available from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. on the stage. Children age six to 12 are invited to participate in the demonstration. Parents must sign a release form. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a free birthday party package at Pearce. Registration will be accepted for the fall Kids Zumba class each Monday from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. September 21 through November 9. Kids Zumba is open to children ages six to 12. The cost of the eight-week session is $18 for Pearce Foundation members; $20 for Pearce members; and $24 for non-members. Space is limited to 15 children.

Blastball

Pearce Community Center is offering a six-week Blastball program for three and four-year-olds. The program begins Monday, September 14, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.  Gym shoes and adult participation are required.  Weather permitting, the program will be held outside.
