Pearce Honors Volunteers at Annual Luncheon

More than 80 Pearce volunteers were honored at the annual luncheon Saturday, April 9. Annual awards in four categories were presented after lunch.
Mame High
Roy Lewis

The Pearce Ambassador award is presented to an individual or organization that positively represents the spirit of PCC to the community. Mame High was this year's winner. Mame is a true ambassador of Pearce and the town of Chillicothe. She is very involved in the Pearce tap dance program and performs with that group at various assisted living facilities around the Peoria area. She is always willing to help out at Pearce like volunteering at Spooktacular where she was in charge of one of the flying disc games for three hours. Mame can be found at Pearce on most days with a friendly smile on her face. When she's not at Pearce, she is volunteering her time at other organizations, all the while supporting and advocating Pearce.

The Cory Shilson award honors a volunteer who seeks ways to help. This

year's winner was Roy Lewis. Roy has always been here to help Pearce in any way. He has worked so hard with many of the projects in years past, playing a fundamental role in the original building renovations. Most recently, you can find Roy in the kitchen helping with Meals on Wheels every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. He always helps with the annual Spooktacular, Breakfast with Santa, Run for the Health of It, and other events.

The Youth Sports award was presented to Mike Ratcliff. Mike is the Chillicothe Township Supervisor. When he's not busy at work,  Mike volunteers at Pearce, coaching his son, Bryce in basketball and soccer for the past three years. He has also coached his older children at Pearce in both basketball and soccer. Gavin Sullivan, Pearce Leagues Manager, says "Mike has the most participants  requesting him as their coach out of any coach I've worked with because of his knowledge of the games and his interaction with the kids. He truly cares for the kids and giving the kids the best experience possible."

The Barbara E. Truitt Volunteer of the Year award celebrates the individual who has consistently supported Pearce and made it a better place through volunteerism, financial support, and efforts to improve Pearce's position in the community. This year's winner was Tom Trainor. Tom volunteers his time on Mondays and Wednesdays teaching chair aerobics to Pearce seniors. His class is always well attended and has many regulars. Tom also helps Pearce out with many handy-man projects including maintaining and repairing the coffee machine in the member lobby.
